Laure Ann Tauer Obituary 2024 - Olson & Swanson Chapels Funeral & Cremation Service (2024)

Laure Tauer passed away Sunday, August 4, 2024 at her home in Grasston at the age of 66.

Laure Ann Richter was born on January 12, 1958 in New Ulm, Minnesota, the oldest child of Craig and Denise Richter, followed by Colleen, Julie, and Keith.

She held different jobs over the years including detasseling corn, working in a butter factory, and working in a diner. She attended New Ulm schools and graduated in 1976. She met Brad Tauer at a motorcycle party in Sleepy Eye. The following year she moved up to the retreat house on Lake Elmo and then moved to Maplewood where she worked as a nursing assistant from 1980 to 1981. That same year they bought the old Tauer farm in Hanska and moved a house there.

Laure worked in a nursing home until 1983 when she and Brad had their first child, Elisha, in March 1983 even though she was told over and over by doctors that she couldn't have children. In January 1985 they welcomed their second child, Harley. They were married on April 12, 1986 and in April 1987 had their third child, Bryon. In the Fall of 1987, they moved back to Lake Elmo to save for buying a house and in the spring of 1988, they bought their house in Harris, Minnesota. They bought it the last day it was on the market. At this point Laure was a full-time homemaker and in 1990 they had their fourth child, Kayla, in June. The following year they had their fifth child, Ena, in November 1991. Five years later they had twin boys, Jaid and Jacob, in February 1996. Laure said raising twins was the best experience. Two years later they had their eighth child, Faith, in June 1998. Laure was a dedicated wife and mother and kept busy raising and homeschooling her children and later was blessed with grandchildren - Carter, Gavin, Theresa, Evan, Brantley, Floyd, Ariela and Bradley.

Laure loved her music and passed that passion on to her children. She had a library of not only books but music and movies too. She was very talented at beadwork, working with leather, making pouches and dream catchers. She was proud of the work she did and of her collection of rocks and sticks she accumulated over the years. She loved going up to Duluth for family trips. She loved baking, gardening, going to Thrift stores, or garage sales. She loved her 1957 Lincoln and as sad as she was to let it go, she knew her son Jacob had the means and knowledge to fix problems it had to make it road worthy again. Recently she got a 1980 Ford LTD and that became her new pride and joy. She said when you drive an old car everyone notices and you are a somebody. She would get compliments all the time driving either car.

She was a social butterfly and would help anyone in need even if the rest of society gave up on them. She believed there was good in everyone and prayed for a world with peace. She loved telling stories and had a way with words and knew how to catch your attention. Sometimes she wouldn't know when to stop talking. That was just her nature. If she was passionate about something there'd be no doubt about it. She told it like it was and at times had no filter. She would always say never lose your sense of humor and often quoted from the Wizard of Oz "if I ever go looking for my heart’s desire, I won't go look any further than my own backyard. It's going to get darker before it gets lighter and there's no place like home."

Laure definitely made her house feel like a home. Her children meant everything to her and knowing they were happy made her happy. Laure was a fighter and never gave up no matter what life threw at her. She spent her last days surrounded by loved ones, going to Thrift stores, listening to music, and got to make that one last trip to Duluth where we ended up camping overnight. She was still adding more plants to her garden, which meant so much to her.

Her family will forever cherish the times they had together and all the laughter which really is the best medicine, and the phone calls that would last for hours. Laure would never say goodbye after a call instead she would say see you later, because goodbye meant forever. So, we'll see you later mom and until then we all know she'll be watching over us, protecting and guiding us on the rest of our own journey that is life.

Laure is survived by her husband Bradley Tauer; children Elisha Tauer, Harley Tauer, Bryon Tauer, Kayla Tauer, Ena Tauer, Jaid Tauer, Jacob Tauer, Faith Tauer; mother Denise Richter; siblings Colleen Browning, Julie Tyner, Keith Richter; many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Craig Richter; grandson Evan; grandparents John and Hilda Richter, Otis and Anna Evans.

A graveside service will take place at William Taylor Cemetery in Rush City.
