We like to put professional soccer players up on pedestals, often due to their skill on the field, their good looks, their high earnings, and the lavish lifestyles that they tend to lead.
But not even the best soccer athletes in the world are always perfect, and while they spend their entire lives dedicated to becoming more talented and skilled on the field, things don’t always turn out as planned.
And while we also like to remember the memorable moments of the game that led to great victories, there are just as many moments that saw a team lose their chance at a trophy. These are usually simple but game-defining mistakes that even the most skilled players tend to make from time to time, no matter how experienced they are or how much they train on a weekly basis.
With that in mind, these are some truly terrible pro soccer player mistakes.
John Terry
Famously known as “Mr Chelsea”, John Terry was a favourite among fans that loved following his exploits and was at the forefront of some of their biggest wins over the years.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t take much to have that title stripped away, as was the case during the 2008 Champions League, specifically at the final shoot-out while playing against Manchester United. It proved enough to see his team lose their match against United in one of the biggest blunders in sporting history.
Laurent Koscielny
Koscielny played for famous club Arsenal for some time before making a mistake that would see his career come to an abrupt end with the club. In fact, his mistakes just about cost his team the Birmingham City League Cub, but it was a victory that was only made possible by Petr Cech.
Regardless, Koscielny’s many mistakes will certainly not be forgotten by fans, many of which were eagerly expecting that the player would perform better in front of the crowd.
This came at a time when many believed he was completely above reproach, having shown nothing but pure skill on the field for almost the entirety of his career, but sometimes even the most unintended mistakes can still occur., something that most would want to avoid while enjoying sports bets NRL.
Loris Karius
Lorus Karius, like the other players on this list, was seen as one of the most promising players of his generation, and it was expected that he would go far into the world of professional soccer, becoming another titan of the industry. Unfortunately, this didn’t turn out to be the case.
While many other mistakes were usually not enough to end a player’s career, this wasn’t the same for Karius, whose constant plethora of blunders during his game in Kiev essentially saw his career come to an end.
In fact, his performance on the field is seen as some of the worst in European soccer history, and he will forever be known as the player that cost his team just about everything, something that no doubt he and the people watching the event will never forget.
